2009 Ordo Kalendar: Liturgical Vestments
This year's kalendar takes as its theme the iconography of vestments and paraments.
These items have both a practical and symbolic role in the celebration of the mass, but it is largely through their ornamentation that they increase our understanding of the faith. A chasuble by itself may symbolize the yoke of Christ, but when it is decorated with an image, the inherent meaning is affirmed and amplified. Thus the object itself becomes both a means of instruction and a focus of contemplation.
Additionally, many of these items are fashioned by hand, and reflect a sense of pious artistry that is a hallmark of an earlier age. In their manufacture, they call to remembrance the words of the psalmist, who said, show thy servants thy work, and their children thy glory; and the glorious majesty of the Lord our God be upon us: prosper thou the work of our hands upon us: O prosper thou our handy work.
